Perfect conditions greeted marathon runners on Sunday. Melbourne is considered by most who run it as the best Australian marathon for its speed and course. The finish in the MCG is an opportunity to bask in the history of that hallowed turf, reflecting on the great sporting moments that have been witnessed there.
Results were quick this year with a number of PBs by HuRTS runners. Ray Wareham who has run dozens of marathons with a PB of 2:39 smashed that figure by a full 3 minutes at the ripe old age of 45 to win his age group and finish top 20, running a 2.5 minute negative split. Tony Fattorini ran the quickest marathon by any HuRTs member this year, also setting a pB of 2:33. And Mike Race who broke the magic 3 hour barrier just 2 years ago crushed his own PB of 2:53 by 4 minutes.
Congratulations to all who ran.
